Trump has always said things to the effect of, “People like me,” as if just by saying it, it’s somehow true. He’s not wrong, of course. Many people do like him. The question is, why?
Trump isn’t a magician in the sense of a brilliant fantasy wizard – that is to say, a man who’s actually powerful. Trump is a magician in the sense that he’s a charlatan, an imposter, a trickster. He’s an illusionist, a distractor. He manipulates attention to get what he wants.
Sharp Practice
Sharp practice means acting in an unsavory, questionable manner that’s technically within the law but still violates ethical boundaries. Trump is a master of sharp practice. He stretches the boundaries as much as he can, to see how far he can get. And the people are his willing dupes!
And he’s right, isn’t he? MAGA is inconceivably dumb.
And they wonder why Trump doesn’t respect the law. It’s because NOTHING HAPPENS when he breaks it! He knows there won’t be any consequences. The system has totally failed to protect the public from this monster.
In 2005, Trump said, “I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”
Today he’s probably saying, “You know I’m automatically attracted to power, I just start taking it. It’s like a magnet. I don’t even wait. And when you’re the president, they let you do it. You can do anything.”
